We are proud to be part of the Forest School initiative.
Forest School is run by Maureen Jackson (Qualified Level 3 Forest Leader) and assisted by Susan Rogers (Qualified Level 2). It is run for 6 weeks over two terms on a Wednesday. The Forest school takes place at BeechGrove Community and follows the six principles of the Forest School Association.
The sessions involve activities such as exploring the natural environment, identifying flora and fauna, learning how to tie knots in order to make a shelter from a tarpaulin, lighting fires using a fire-steel, cooking over an open fire, mud-play, using tools and making crafts from natural materials.
Every child throughout their time in school will be given the opportunity to attend the six sessions. It is run in all weathers and over every season so that children can witness the changes that occur in the Forest.
The children are encouraged to become independent as far as possible whilst the group leaders establish physical and behavioral boundaries. and adhering to Safety procedures, hygiene and routines.
It is a fantastic opportunity to develop the children’s interests in nature and we are fortunate to be able to offer this facility during their time at Nonington C.E.P. School.
